WHAT'S HAPPENING?

Our nation-leading clean energy progress made in the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) is under attack by a coordinated, radicalized campaign to ban the development of local wind and solar projects through the circulation of fear and false information.

These activists have already partnered with anti-environment politicians to pass local ordinances blocking new wind and solar projects, jeopardizing our state’s climate goals, financial savings, job creation, economic development, and grid reliability secured in CEJA. In fact, the area of Illinois within the Ameren service territory, where these campaigns are most active, especially needs rapid wind and solar to address potential capacity shortfalls.

WHAT YOU CAN DO!

The General Assembly must take swift legislative action to defend CEJA and stop these bad-faith attack campaigns before it's too late. Use the form on this page to ask your legislators to support legislation that does the following:

removes overburdensome local bans and siting regulations
keeps intact and prioritizes protections for endangered species and natural areas
encourages good conservation practices at utility-scale clean energy sites

Subject: Protect wind and solar in Illinois -- Please vote for HB4412

Message:

As your constituent, I am writing to ask that during the lame duck session, you please support and co-sponsor legislation (HB4412) that will remove the ability of counties to pass overburdensome regulations on utility-scale wind and solar energy. In 2021, Illinois became a clean energy leader by enacting into law the standards of the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA). The resulting jobs, economic development, and climate change impact of this law will face significant barriers if counties are allowed to ban or restrict wind and solar. Not only do these bans negatively affect the equity provisions of CEJA, including the workforce programs and their placement, but they also remove the ability of residents and businesses, your constituents, to see the benefits of local clean energy. For example, because they can no longer participate in these projects, vital revenue to supplement farming income or property taxes to keep schools open are in jeopardy. Additionally, the bill under consideration would continue and enhance protections for endangered species and conservation areas at these large-scale sites. Please vote yes on HB4412.
