The presentation will describe the legal strategies Earthjustice and the Great Lakes Environmental Law Center have used to support of several Flint-based organizations in the fight to change the way a state environmental agency makes permitting decisions.
It will center on the state's decision to issue a permit to a hot-mix asphalt plant located within 1600 feet of public housing in a Black, low-income community that has already faced tremendous air pollution and health issues, including very high rates of asthma. The presentation will cover three legal strategies and connect this civil rights fight to other civil rights and environmental justice fights around the nation.
CLE credit will be available following this event for attorneys.
